Nora’s summer sessions are drop-off classes designed for 2.5-4 year olds (children must be turning 3 by 12/2019) by the awesome lead teacher of the Carroll Coop, Nora Costello. Choose one or all of our two week sessions. Sessions are Monday - Friday from 9am -11:45am and last two weeks.
Session 1: Super Science! (7/8 - 719)
Through hands-on, sensory-rich projects and activities, the children will explore primary science concepts such as acid-base reactions, density, condensation and evaporation, gravity, heat and temperature, electricity, and more! Projects include fizzy play-dough, mineral oil sensory bottles, rock candy, and more!
Session 2: Gardening (7/22-8/2)
Join us in our enormous backyard for super fun with our herbs, flowers, and of course, the sprinklers. We will make terrariums/mini-ecosystems, germinate seeds, paint little ceramic pots, cultivate spider plant babies, and more!
Session 3: Behind the scenes: puppet theater and mask making (8/5-8/16)
By engaging children's natural gifts for imaginative dramatic play, we will explore puppetry large and small; from shadow and finger, to masks and whole body. Children will use a variety of materials including socks, mixed paper and fasteners, glue and googly eyes, containers & recyclables, and papier-mâché to craft beautiful (and functional!) masks and puppets-- and learn to give life and personality to their creations through design, movement, and voice.
Session 4: Music Makers! (8/19-8/30)
Join us as we make simple instruments, explore song, and compose on our beautiful piano.
All of our programs are designed to incorporate child-directed solutions, fostering the development of critical thinking skills, creativity, self-regulation, and planning through open-ended exploration, inquiry, and teamwork. Children will also enjoy time outdoors in our garden, and on the deck with sprinklers, open-ended freeplay and crafting, or "choice time", and will be encouraged to bring their own ideas to each project as collaborators with both each other and their teachers!
Snack will be served mid-morning.
